For them who accidently deleted their important sms. i found a new trick! trick to read deleted sms..this is very simple and 100% working.. So heres the trick.

Required utility:
you will need X-plorer download from here.

Procedure:
Step 1) Open X-plorer

Step 2) Select drive C: or D: depending on the memory in which the Sms messages have been saved.

Step 3) For example u selected c: , Then open “system” folder.

step 4) Then in “system” folder open “mail” folder.

step 5) Then in this folder u will see different folders (eg 0010001_s) and certain files (eg 00100000). These files are the actual messages. Browse through every folder and open all files till u get the sms u are looking for.

Step 6) For opening the files don’t choose options>file>open as it will show format not supported rather choose options>file>hex/text viewer. By selecting the “Hex/ text viewer” u ll be able to open and read the deleted SMS message.

i tested this on my cp and will work on all s60v2 phones who use X-Plore

If you have Multiple User account in Windows XP, then if you want, you can make your documents folder private and unaccessible from other users of the same PC.

Good thing about this feature is this, that only you can make your folders private, neither Administrator nor any other user can do this with your documents.

To Make Folder Private:

1. Open My Computer Double-click the drive where Windows is installed (usually drive C:).
2. Double-click the Documents and Settings folder.
3. Right-click folder with your (user) name and then click Properties.
4. On the Sharing tab, select/check the “Make this folder private” check box.
5.Click Apply and then OK.
Thats it! Now only you have access to your Precious Documents.

Rename any folder with extension {645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}
for example
if you’ve a folder games
press F2,
then type, “games.{645FF040-5081-101B-9F08-00AA002F954E}” without “”

remove the extension using

Yesterday we noticed in our windows samba share machine that it was infected with virus. This is the kind of virus which became common 2 years back which created an executable file with the name same as the current directory name. In a windows machine, the icon was set in such a way that it looked exactly like a windows directory. If you double click that file (thinking it is a folder), you are sure be infected.

So, I had to delete the files and the shared directory was having numerous folders. I then wrote a bash one liner (not exactly 1 line) to delete the files.

First I used find to get the list of all the exe files in all folders and stored it in a file (exe_files).

This was the command I then used to delete all the files.
cat exe_files | while read line;do l=`ls -lh “${line}”`;size=`echo $l| cut -d’ ‘ -f5`;if [ $size = "604K" ]; then rm “`echo $l| cut -c”47-”`” ;fi; done

What it does is reads each line in the file and finds the size of each file and if the size is ‘604K‘ then remove the file.

Deleting based on the filesize was not that good, as we might have lost some original file which was correctly 604K. If you wanted a better solution, you would have to write one more if clause to check if the filename is the same as the folder name – better to create a shell script instead of trying a one liner.

Thanks to linux, we could delete all the ~6000 virus files in a simple command without the fear of infection.

Xfce the light-weight desktop environment and the latest version 4.4 was released two days back. It has been a favorite desktop for many users and the latest version has numerous features like Desktop icons, File Manager, text editor, removable drives or media.

Desktop Icons

One of the most often requested features during the 4.0 and 4.2 was support for icons on the desktop. Now, with Xfce 4.4.0, this feature was finally added to the desktop manager Xfdesktop.

The desktop manager utilizes Thunar’s libraries to handle application launchers and regular files/folders on the desktop. The desktop manager is also able to display icons for minimized windows on the desktop, which is quite a popular feature from the CDE world. Of course, you can disable the desktop icons altogether if you prefer a clean desktop.

Removable Drives and Media

Xfce 4.4.0 provides easy access to data on removable drives and media. Just insert the media into the drive or plug the new drive in to the computer and an icon representing the removable volume will appear on the desktop and in Thunar’s side pane.

Autostart

Xfce 4.4.0 implements the new Autostart Specification – actually Xfce was the first desktop to implement said feature, but the others were faster to release.

The specification consists of two parts, the Autostart of Applications During Startup, which is implemented in xfce4-session and the Autostart Of Applications After Mount which is implemented in thunar-volman. This release also includes the xfce4-autostart-editor, shown in the screenshot above, which allows users to easily add, remove or disable autostarted applications.
